Hino's Puppy Diary

16.9.2007
Couple lines to here for a long time... Hino has filled 6 months today - time goes so fast. Couple days ago we weighted Hino and he was 29 kilos. All Hino's teeth have changed and his occlusion and amount of teeth is looking right. Hino has got more stronger on his feet, fore chest and head, and he is almost little bit taller than Yepa.

Hino's coat feels still soft, but on the other hand, it probably isn't his last yet. For couple weeks we'll get judge's evaluation of Hino in Hyvinkää Puppy Show.

Hino 6 months

14.8.07
Well, how are our "little boy" today?? Growth and changing teeth at least.

Hino was weight today and few days before his 5 months, he weight 24 kilos. Now he's starting to look like a little bit sturdy and not just legs. Hino's coat is still little bit mystery - nobody can tell how it will be in the future. In his chest, under his belly and in his legs it isn't that long, that it would be wooly. On the other hand, in his face, legs and in his back it is harsher than in his sides and head. Well, maybe we won't see how it turns to be until next spring. Hino is also changing his color, black coat is expanding from legs and from his belly to upwards and from Hino's back to sides.

Hino has changed his teeth a lot. One day I step on one of his canine tooth, which was on the floor and that didn't feel good... New teeth is coming in same speed than baby teeth are going. Quite a little Hino has chewed anything because of his teeth changing - he likes to chew wood sticks though. I think it must be some malamute thing, because Yepa likes to chew wood also; sticks, dog house - everything goes.

Last Sunday Hino tried bike-joring again, this time by himself, not with any other dogs. At the same time when bike moved, he had really fun and lots of speed. Hino truly pulled with tight line. It was hard to trample so fast, that pulling isn't too hard for him. Few hundred meters was the distance, but once again practice gave us really promising reference for the future.

Hino has also found same summer hobby than Yepa last summer: eating currants right from the bushes. Red, white and especially blacks are tasting really well. Some times so well, that if you want Hino to come inside, you'll have to get him from the bush. Well, I think currants are healthy and Hino gets also some important vitamins of them.

2.8.07
Little Hino is getting little bit bigger Hino; Yesterday we did measure and weight him and here are the results: Hino's height is approx. 55 cm and weight is little bit over 20 kilos. He is still quite slim, it looks like Hino has really long legs, big wide head and tiny body... ;-)

Hino has been developed also in his "behavior"; he don't try to nag at people anymore (one No works well, if he forgets), he waits permission to eat his food keeping eye contact whole time, don't rush out of yard fence before he has been granted and so on. He also don't try to yell like a lion and test owners opinion's strength when he has prohibited of something.

Hino tried his first bike-joring last Monday, but there is more about it in the news.

Hino 20 weeks and his favorite hobby - eating currants

27.7.07
Well, summer holiday trip is done and now is time to update pages.

Hino has really grown meanwhile and his paws are like a shovels now. He has also got some strength to his body, but still he has more legs... His chest hasn't got any deepness yet and it is still puppy kind. Hino's teeth has been changed fast and he has now adult teeth in front, all of them in upper jaw and excluding two in his lower jaw. Fur is changing all the time, veterinary said that he looks like a little bear, because he has adults hair coming, but have also still much puppy hair.

Hino got his Rabies-vaccination and now them are okay. Vet said, that Hino is really nice, happy and lively little malamute. He truly have a lot of energy nowadays and we hope it will be shown also in sledding in the future! Hino has been jogging with us and he really has strength enough to keep up with us. We have also tested husky harnesses to him and it is fun looking sight. Finnish Lapp hound Heta had those harnesses before and now they are perfect to Hino - for a little time.

Hino 17 weeks and 17 kilos. That's all news this time.

7.7.07
Hino got his second 4-vaccinations yesterday and only Rabies is still missing. Veterinary's scale showed 16 kilos sharp. We have got Hino little bit more roundish, and when I asked vet's opinion, she said, that she thinks Hino is in excellent shape now. We think so too, now he isn't so "bony" anymore.

Hino 16 weeks

Hino's heart sounded good and both his testicles were there, where them should be - that is good! His teeth he wouldn't' like to show, but at last vet managed to look at them too - lovely new teeth in front. Both vet and assistant admired Hino's dark eyes and his "robber mask". Well - he is so admirable!

At veterinary's office we met also Minna and Rami with their malamute Sade. She has accrued so big and lovely looking malamute. Hino and Sade got to used to each other and we owners got to change some thoughts. Hino needs new collar, because his former has been too little for a long time and Hino has had to loan Yepa's collar. Otherwise week has been speedy; Hino has really started to play with Yepa outside and then there is speed!

1.7.07
15 weeks and 14 kilos. Quite fast is Hino's growth speed and still sometimes I feel that he is little bit too slim. Well, better slim than roundish. He still gains weight evenly, so maybe it is good. Hino's first baby tooth has got loose. We need to follow, that those teeth falls off by themselves. He also looses his puppy coat very fast.

Today Hino was in Ylämaa's Gem and Mineral Show with us and there was crowd! Moving forward with Hino was little bit difficult, not for jam, but Hino's admirers. Almost everybody wanted to pet him and ask questions about him, but that was just the reason why we took him with us - getting used to crowd. Almost everybody who took a guess of his race, knew that he is a malamute. Only two of them thought Hino to be a husky. Hino loved to be in middle of attention. We also met few other dogs and one pony, which was the most interesting thing there, if you'll ask Hino.

Hino "black-eye", 15 weeks

23.6.07
Hino has one week more again, last Friday it was 14 weeks full. At scale he weighted 12,5 kilos. We also measured his height and by "home measuring" we got 45-46 centimeters - not that long for Veera's height. Hino looks really tall-legged, so middle of development as puppy should be in this age..

I've added many new pictures to Hino's puppy album - please go and check those!

Hino 14 weeks, getting wild

17.6.07
Hino has 13 weeks full and he is growing brisk - 11,5 kilos now. He still has his speed, but fortunately his biting is decreased and for some way he has got a little bit more patience.

When Hino gets out of yard fence, he has to yell all the news and his head is like a ball, because he pulls his ears so back when he is happy! Tail is swinging wild from side to side, sometimes it looks like he is going to fly with it...

Hino has funny way to poke people. When Yepa kisses, Hino pokes and push nicely with his nose - just like he'd try to squeeze whining toy. It feels funny! Jere gave his soft toy, a camel to Hino and it is his new favorite toy. Hino loves to carry it around and "kill" it with wild shaking. Yepa really would like to play with it too, but she haven't had permission to do that, because she would break it. I think Hino will do that too, but not until his puppy teeth are changed.

13.6.07
Hino's first vaccination is done now. After a month he will get effect vaccination and two weeks after that he'll get Rabies-vaccination. Then the whole world is open to Hino!

In veterinary's reception we needed to wait an hour because of emergency patient, but Hino behaved really nicely. He lied on the floor or watched other patients from my lap. Of course he gathered all attention of people and staff with his irresistible sweet looks! Vaccination needle he didn't notice at all, but his eyes and teeth he didn't want to show and struggled against it. In veterinary's opinion, Hino is in excellent condition!

After vaccination and researching, we needed to wait again, but Hino behaved nice again. On our way to home, Hino was already sleepy little malamute - so much new things to see. I added new pictures of 12 weeks old Hino to his puppy gallery!

9.6.07
Now Hino is 12 weeks old. This time scale showed 11 kilos. It starts to feel somewhere, if you need to carry Hino longer. Still he is in very good shape, not too much "padding" anywhere. His face marks changes form continually, now he has "robbers mask" around his eyes and he has inherited her mom's little bit worried expression.

Hino 12 weeks

At next Monday is his first vaccination and he already had worm course. It's nice to see, what veterinary says about him. Hino has so much speed now. His height is increased that much, that he gets up to sofa, and to our bed. That means, that in the mornings in our bed isn't just one but two malamutes raging and playing...

At last Thursday Hino was with us in Tony's soccer game. At his cage he has few "icy containers" and he slept on them so happy as arctic dog should be. On side of football area, he was like magnet to people - everybody wanted to pet him. Hino wasn't any scared of them, on the contrary - he was so enthusiastic about people.

3.6.07
Hino has his 11 weeks full and his weight is now 9,5 kilos. He is growing smoothly. He has "grow bumps" in his front feet and they are quite big. His height is approaching Veera's height and Veera's destiny is soon to be smallest in pack again.

Every kind of "weekday obedience" has been trained with Hino: for instance waiting permission to eat his food, come here and parrying of. Everything is going well, only coming to is little bit slow, because he likes to sit on his butt and wonder everything. On the other hand, Hino has so much energy when needed. Is it good for the future sledding - who knows?? Clipping his nails is so easy - he only lies on his back between clippers legs and nails are shortened. He also likes to be at lap and often he fells asleep there.

Hino is keen to use his teeth for biting and sometimes feels like, that there is nothing to do to stop it. He has to strike his teeth for everywhere, mostly for people. Legs of our bed has also suffered his destruction power, but fortunately they aren't broken yet...

Couple photos of 11 weeks old Hino.

26.5.07
10 weeks and 8 kilos. There is this weeks most important news.

21.5.07
9 weeks full and weight was still 6,5 kilos. We added his food amount a little, that weight would increase normally. Hino's figure looks really suitable for his age, not too roundish.

Past week Hino has been getting used to spend time at yard fence with Yepa. Being there flows well. Of course when people are outside, he has to make a noisy protest for leaving he there, but when we go inside, he quiet down immediately.

At ALMA's Off Snow-race Hino was with us. He likes to car ride and sleeps in back of the car. We have cage with us and at the race place we piled it up and Hino spent his time there without any shouting. After the race Hino got to play with his siblings, Jyry and Raid. Despite of warm and sunny weather they had really fun and lot of speed.

Hino sitting with Marja-Liisa.

13.5.07
Hino is 8 weeks now and scale showed 6,5 kilos. He has felt like home and don't have to follow us everywhere anymore. Hino is very curious as we have seen that malamutes are with Yepa. He seems to be very nice little malamute, but he is so different than Yepa. Of course they are unique, even though they are same race. But it is fun to follow how different they are, like a day and night.

Hino plays with Yepa a lot, biting and jumping. Yepa lets Hino to jump on her, she just lies on the floor and Hino climbs all over her. That is something that we wouldn't believed to see!

On a left photo Hino is 7 weeks and on the right 8 weeks.

8.5.2007
Hino has come home. Trip from Hernejärvi to home went really well, only few first kilometers we had honor to listen puppy's singing about misery of car ride.

Hino's weight is nearly 6 kilos, so he is much more lighter than Yepa was when she came to us. Food is important to Hino, as for all malamutes, but he don't growl for his bowl. First night went fine also, no crying. I think Hino is brave little boy.
