Yona's Puppy Diary
| 24.11.2008 |
Yona has started her pull training last week. Her first pull
was in our yard road and she pulled kid's little boxing
sack! ;) As soon as she started moving, she noticed that
sack is following her and she would have wanted to play with
it. When we got her to forget playing, she pulled 30 meters
really nicely! You couldn't notice, that she was pulling
something behind her, it was so easy..
Yesterday after big mal's kick-sled trip Yona got to take a
little practice with Yepa in front of kick-sled. When we got
to the move, it went also really well! This time we didn't
connect Yepa and Yona with their collars, we try to minimize
all bad experiences in start phase, so Yona won't get any
bad memories about pulling.
When we got our first snow, Yona showed that she is a real
malamute and got really wild in snow! It is always so fun to
see how mals enjoy about snow and they just love it.
I've added few new photos to
Yona's Puppy Gallery.

Well, it's about time to update Yona's Puppy Diary. Today Yona
got 5 months old and you can say, that time goes so fast!
For a fun, we weighted Yona and she is now 20 kilos. We also
measured her height and it was approx. 53 cm.
Yona has shown many sides of her and we think, that she is
more in everything than Yepa and/or Hino; Hino is so
friendly, but Yona is more. Yepa is confident and almost
"shameless", Yona is that also but more. Yepa is very
energetic, but once again, Yona is more. And Yona is also
more stubborn, than Hino and Yepa together... Sigh, I say!
But she is so much everything we wanted, so now we only
hope, that we can start train her little by little to
working and she will show her potential also there!
Yona's canine teeth (tusks) are all left and new ones are
coming. Girl has grown well and with balance also elsewhere.
I like her straight front feet, which hasn't tried to turn
any direction. She also has nice front moreover and she also
got great coat. Her rear is also balanced and movements are
good for her age. Yona rarely trots anywhere, but she loves
to run as fast as she can...
Today we tried to take photos of Yona, but once again we
noticed, that stubborn and energetic malamute kid isn't easy
to get posing! We'll see, how her first Puppy Show will go
in the end of this month.... I have added new photos to
Yona's Puppy Gallery. There is also few photos from
Theme: "How to try take photos of malamute kid...." ;-)

Yona 5 months
|
| 20.10.2008 |
Yona is now 4 months and it will be easier to count months
than weeks anymore. Yona has grown quite well, at her 4
months birthday she weighted 16 kilos sharp.
Yona, Yepa and Hino has started to keep
three-some-play-sessions at the evenings in our living room.
One time I captured in video, hopefully I'll have time soon
to make it ready for our site. Yona has so much energy, that
it feels like she won't ever tire her up... Car driving is
also very familiar to Yona, she has already travelled three
race trips, one Autumn meeting and couple soccer events with
us, so she is totally used to car drive.
Ýona has changed her teeth. Her bite looks to be ok now, but
we'll see when she has changed all those teeth. I'm planning
to take Yona to one Puppy Show this year, I think it will be
late November or early December. It will be unofficial,
because of age, but still there is all as in real shows -
only personal quality judgement as EXC, VG and so on aren't
used.
I've added some new photos to
Yona's Puppy Gallery.

Yona 16 weeks.

Well, it is gone over week from another update, but here we
are again. Yona is now 15 weeks and her last weight was 14
kilos. She is still growing fine, height starts to reach
Veera's height.
Yona has changed her coat's color quite much, body is quite
dark gray now. Head, throat and neck are still light, and so
she looks like the head would be from another dot. Yona has
started to listen us better outside and comes more surely
when you call her. Otherwise she is still as energetic and
happy as she has always been. Her social manners are
something that always makes me happy - Yona can "speak"
dog's language so well! Yepa and Hino hasn't ever been so
good, or we just have learned to observate better. Yona
charms almost every dog, which she meets and get's them to
like herself. What a great feature!
Last weekend Yona was with us at Jämi Pawtrekker Finnish
Championship 2008 - race. There was really much people and
dogs, but once again, Yona wasn't afraid at all. Only when
we needed to go through two howling husky packs, then she
was a little bit nervous, but that's only wise. Yona also
was in "stake-out" chain for a while, but she acted like she
has been attached to chain for a lifetime - nothing new or
odd about it.
Next week Yona will have her effect vaccination and then
only Rabies is missing. I've added many new photos to
Yona's
PuppyGallery.

Yonalla riittää vauhtia aina ja ikuisesti!

Well, another week behind and Yona is 14 weeks now. Scale
showed 12,5 kilos yesterday and it means that girl is
growing well.
Yona got great deal of new experiences last Saturday. She
was with us at Aulanko Race. Yona didn't mind all the fuss
at all, even though there was many people and dogs howled
and barked of exitement. Tail up went our little Yona
everywhere. There was also her "soulmate", Belgian Shepherd
puppy, which was same age than Yona. Together they got to
wonder all different looking dogs.
On our way home, we stopped to visit Mika and Sirkka. There
we tried Yepa's and Nukka's working together and Yona got to
play with all her heart with Atchuu. Atchuu is approx. one
month older malamute male than Yona. You'll probably guess,
there was lot of speed with these too. Yona played also with
Nukka, so she got really much experiences of dogs outside of
our own pack!
Yona is now stubborn little creature, maybe even more
stubborn than Yepa and Hino together... On the other hand,
she is very kind - so little "bad habits", only one mobile
phone's charger. She is speedy and quite acrobat, at least
what comes to jumping. One of her favorite hobbies is
hanging out on our sofa's arm rests or back rests. Yona's
character is also very happy and social. Her tail wags all
the time and if you say half a word to her, Yona's ears goes
by her head - she is so pleased. She also pulls very much
already and we tested our smallest harnesses to her. There
is some room to grow in, so maybe we don't put her to work
yet... ;-) We'll see how powerful worker she will be, when
she grows up and gets more age.
This kind of news today, below you'll see photo of Yona of
last Saturday. There is also quite many new photos in
Yona's own Gallery, and Hino with Yona in
Malamutes Together-album.

Yona is very happy girl, as you can see of photo.

Now Yona is 12 weeks and she went today to see a vet. There
she got her 1. vaccinations and was also checked by vet.
Everything was great and Yona's weight was 10 kg.
Yesterday I took a camera with me and took Yona to the
forest. As you can see in photos in Yona's own gallery, she
enjoyed herself of speed and freedom. She also perfomed nice
jumps over the fallen trees and other obstacles.
We tried to photograph Yona today and get some posing
pictures, but that was quite hard mission to complish... She
has so much speed or if she's still, she likes to sit down
and stare at your face.
Girl has also showed more "fun stuff" like eating all apples
from the ground, digging in water bowl and running away if
she have something forbitten in her mouth. Still, she
already can lay down nicely, when she's getting her food,
and comes to, when called outside. Usually she also gives
everything up from her mouth, if you bribe her with some
snack.
Here are Yona's news today - you'll find more photos of Yona
in
her own gallery.

Yona is now 11 weeks old and now she weighted 9,5 kilos. This
week it's time to deworm her and next week she's going to
get her first vaccination in Finland.
We have a little "malamute's play-room" in our living room
at evenings, when Yona and Hino starts to wrestle there.
Sometimes Yepa participates also and plays along. Yona has
also started to get used to our dog fence, but she hasn't
still spend time there any longer.
Yona is some kind of jumping malamute. She is constantly
planning jumps from somewhere to elsewhere. For instance,
she is tried to jump from one sofa to another and there is
over 1 meter distance between them. We just have to try to
catch her, so she don't hurt herself. Another funny play is
to growl, howl and snarl to food bowls. Those bowls are
metal and I think the reflection is so fun, that she has to
play with herself...! She also likes to carry those bowls
and you'll never know, where they will be found next. Yona
also found our currant bushes today and she eagerly ate
black currants directly from bush.
Yona has now her own Photogallery, you'll find it from
Gallery-page or directly clicking
HERE.
There is also album from our
trip to Sweden - travel photos, Cahppes-kennel's
malamutes and Yona's siblings. Please, check them out!

Well, now we have weighted Yona and she is 9 kilos in the age
of 10 weeks. No wonder, why she felt little bit heavy to
carry in my lap on the boat over half an hour...
Yona has already met our other dogs, except Veera. Pontus
was first, because he surely can behave nicely with puppies.
Yesterday Yona already got little bit wild near Pontus and
started to run around him. Yepa and Hino has also been
inside the house with Yona for a couple evenings and that is
gone well too. Yepa said once "ruff" to Yona and ment, that
she's THE ONE. Hino would like to play with Yona, but he's
so big and wild sometimes, that Yona is still little bit
alert with him. Veera has met Yona also inside our house,
but she has only met Yona briefly and from half meter
distance. Veera didn't growl to her, but was a little bit
"over-heated", that we'll keep them apart for a little while
longer.
Yona is very happy and lively puppy, but still very kind.
She has made almost every need outside and she's eating well
and playing a lot.
Here is also few photos of Yona at our home.

Yona has come home! She is very happy and brave little girl,
but she is still little bit confused how to react to our
other dogs. That's why we haven't introduced them to each
other yet, even though Yepa and Hino has met her briefly and
everybody has seen each other for a little distance.
Tomorrow it will be Yona's weighting day, so we'll know how
much she weights at the age of 10 weeks.
